This Week's 'On Repeat' Playlist Features New Music From All Over The Globe

On Repeat Vol. 7

With this week's installation of “On Repeat,” we’ve curated new sounds from all over the globe.

It’s all about heavy Afrobeats and dancehall vibes on this week’s “On Repeat” playlist. Sounds from artists like Maleek Berry, Tiwa Savage, Davido, Cruel Santino and Lil Tecca are paired with the new 21 Savage and Metro Boomin collaboration featuring Drake called “Mr. Right Now,” as well as YG’s “Rodeo” from his new studio album. “Rodeo” samples an all-time classic single “Body Heat” by Quincy Jones on a new track that features Chris Brown and Tyga, which is guaranteed to be played in clubs all throughout the nightlife scene.

While there are so many diverse sounds on this week’s playlist, a few artists to take note of are DDG with his single “Moonwalking in Calabasas,” Tiwa Savage with her single “Koroba” and the Skrillex and Lil Tecca collaboration “Selection.”

Skrillex, a long-time DJ and producer, and his collaboration with 18-year-old Lil Tecca from Queens, New York, is a sign that the older generation is able to collaborate with the onslaught of new voices coming into the music industry.

Tiwa Savage with her single “Koroba” peels back the superficial layer of a radio sound and gives listeners an authentic piece of Nigerian culture. Tiwa Savage, who worked as a back-up vocalist for greats like George Micheal and Mary J. Blidge, holds down the Afro sounds on this week’s playlist.

DDG’s single “Moonwalking in Calabasas” featuring Blueface is another example of an up-and-coming voice in the music industry. DDG is a rapper and recording artist who started his career through social media as a Youtuber. While DDG has put out singles before, this was the first one for which he was able to snag a big-name feature with Rapper Blueface. The single also uses the same instrumentals as a track on hit-recording-artist Future’s latest album called “Too Comfortable,” which gives the song an edge that’s already familiar to rap listeners.
